Cycle Tour I Circumnavigation the Iberian Peninsula I Spain and Portugal

This stage of my cycling trip began in Milan and from the Central Station I took the train to Ventiniglia in the Lombardy region of northern Italy.

I had booked the trip a few days in advance because you might not find space for your bicycle and you would need to purchase an additional ticket for transporting your bicycle.

The train journey was approximately 3 hours and 41 minutes, covering a distance of approximately 225 kilometers.

My solo cycling trip began with the arrival at Ventimiglia station, a journey that passed quickly. I got off the train in a few minutes, arranged everything on the front and rear racks and then I set off. And I said to myself: Finally, on the saddle of my beloved bicycle named Girasole!

In this stage of my trip I cycled from Ventimiglia, a charming little town on the coast of the Italian Riviera and is located right on the coastal border between France and Italy.

This itinerary, which winds by pedaling from the train station and in a few kilometers I was at the Roma campsite. It is a convenient location and allowed me to reach the French Riviera the next day.

After settling into the campsite, I took a walk in Ventimiglia, but not in the modern part, the one near the sea, but in Ventimiglia Alta, the oldest part of the city, a medieval village that dominates from above and is surrounded by ancient walls.

To reach it I had to take the Via Aurelia and, after the long climb, I reached the village. It was very pleasant to walk through the labyrinthine streets, the narrow alleys and the ancient buildings, and from the top you could dominate the splendid views of the coast on one side and the mountains on the other. It was simply spectacular to visit it and it was really worth it!
